Nice pictures Blow!!! Well yesterday was the opener of the Ohio 3 Day Muzzleloader season. It was a crazy morning. First, I had a buck walk in at about 50 yards. I thought to myself this is to easy. Then I lined up my cross hairs and pulled the trigger and a little "pop" I thought to myself are you kidding me. My cap had fired but failed to egnight the black powder. About an hour later I got down out of the stand and was on the way to the trucks with Ray and Old man River. When we looked out on the corn field and seen 12 deer in the open corn field well out of range. We got down in some cover and hoped that maybe they would get pushed are way. No luck on that happening and even if it did the chances of the riffle working was in the back of my mind. Those deer never did come back are way. When I fired my riffle to unload it still wouldn't fire. SO, this afternoon I cleaned out the nipple with a pin. I'm hoping that if I see something tomorrow that the gun will fire. This has taught me an important leason in life always keep your nipples clean.

Old Photo

My wife just found a way to make new pictures look old and worn like the pictures lining all of the walls at Cabela's. She is going to show me how to do it and then I will pass on the info. I thought it would be cool to do it to some of our classic hunting/fishing pictures we have.

Well is the season to be jolly. Some of us that killed bucks early in the year are sitting round the fire well the rest of us endure frigged Ohio winter. The hunting has been slow and cold since the Ohio deer gun season. However, we get another shot to get it done the weekend of the 20th with are shotguns and Four days starting the 27th with our muzzle loaders. In the mean time I hope everyone has a great holiday season. Enjoy the hunting but more importantly reflect upon the Saviors birth and the great gift it was to all of us. Oh yeah!!!!!!Enjoy the hunting with your families to. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S Try not to shot Santa's Reindeer this might be hard to explain to your kids and the game warden.

Gun season comes to an end with two bucks and a doe!!!

This is Tharrons 5 point buck that he shot on the thursday that I decided not to go out and he sat in my stand.
This is how we grow them in Ohio this bad boy will score right around 150 I believe which may put old man river in to the Ohio Big Bucks club.

This was Tony's first deer it came on opening moring never had a chance with Tony and his new shotgun waiting on him to cross the field.

Here is another look at the monster dont day dream on it to long. Wish i could have been out there when this one was taken. People followed the truck to the check station to take a closer look at this once in a life time trophy Buck.

Mark Watson's farm

This is the property we hunt at in Ohio. There have been some monster bucks taken off of it. Hopefully there will be many more to come! I know that I have missed marking some of the deer that have been shot here so you will have to let me know so I can fix it, and where all of the current stand locations are. Just leave a comment. All of the stands that I know of are marked in yellow, deer kills are marked in light green, and the spot where I shot the coyote a couple of years ago is in purple. I can't study!

Well, I should be studying for my 7 finals coming up in the next week but I just can't seem to concentrate. All I can think about is my baby girl that is due any day now and our big deer hunting trip to Ohio this time next year. I know that it is still 11 months away but I have already starting planning it. My good buddies Ryan Gebfert and Tyson Murdock are going to Ohio with me from Pittsburgh for 1 week next November to hunt with Kenny and the boys. Should be great fun. 1 whole week of man time/hunt camp. All the fartin, burpin, poopin, and eatin we can handle. And I am confident that I can say that I will kill the biggest buck since I am the best hunter/fisherman in the world! Congrats to Tony for killing his first whitetail. Ya baby!

Hunting has been slow even though this should be the rut !!!!!!!!!!

Well here in Ohio the hunting has been rather slow as we head into next weeks gun season. I thought that the deer would be chasing more but that just does not seen to be the case at all. I haven't seen a buck in over a week so we must have to many Does that the bucks were able to bed a doe early and not have to do to much fighting or chasing. Lucky think is we have seen many does and Anthony is trying to single candidly take care of the problem with his third deer of the year and second doe. He got her after his belly was full of turkey last night. I'm hoping that opening day of gun is a great day and that it is a successful as last year was. I'm hoping that we can off a few of the coyotes that have been running around so that the Turkey population continues to go up so that we can have fun hunting in the spring too.

P.S: I think that it is time to start thinking about the First big man trip. I'm thinking a big hunting/fishing we have conections in Utha, Idaho, Montana. And a few other places in the country but if we plan something now this gives us time to put a way into our man accounts. just something to think about would love to hear any ideas.

My second deer of the season. A perfect 20 yard shot right to the lungs. She ran for about 100 yards into an open field and just laid down and died. Just some more meet in the freezer!! Second deer with a compound bow!!

Anthony's first deer with a compound!!

My first deer with a compound bow!! About a ten yard shot through some trees. I hit him between his shoulders which made fall where he was. Who would have thought that if I had waited just ten minutes more an even bigger buck would have given me a decent shot as well. That's the way it always is with hunting!

Another good day of Ohio whitetail hunting!!!!!!!!!!!

The deer were every were again this morning we only seen one small Buck though but many does traveled through. Anthony missed his third deer of the year early in the morning. Again so I stand up recock the crossbow and she comes in to 35 yards better shot. Miss!! Again so I cock it one last time last arrow and she comes in to 15 yards lay the red dot on her and let on flight double lung and heart shot she ran 150 yards and died. I'm ready for another this time with horns.

Fish On!!!

On Tuesday I had the opportunity to drive up to Elk Creek in NW Pennsylvania and fish for steelhead. The water level was up from the recent rain and a lot of fresh fish had moved in from the lake. I went with my good buddy Ryan Gebfert and we had a great time. We probably hooked into close to 15 fish and landed 7. The biggest fish weighed 6 pounds. All of the fish were caught on some type of white egg patteren or succer spawn. We are only allowed to keep 3 fish a day but that still gave me 6 nice fillets!

Wild Season!!!!!!!

So. Far this season I have missed three deer Including the deer of a live time a week ago. This though today was the best day that I have ever experianced out at the property. I seen about 16 deer Including 5 bucks of which three would have been shoters. I'm hoping that tomarrow will bring better aim.

Baby Low's new toys!

My parents were in town this last weekend to go to the Pitt game with us and my dad bought us some sweet little hunting and fishing figures for the baby. Let's be honest, they are really for me! Baby Low would probably just swallow them and drop them in a juicy deuce. Now when I can't get out into the woods, I can at least pretend like I am hunting and fishing. That's the next best thing.

My New Toy

A few months ago I entered into a raffle with a local gun club. To my surprise, I received a call last Tuesday night informing me that I won a new gun. It's a Henry lever action 22. I have always wanted a lever action and this is a great gun one to have. It's known for its butter smooth action and accuracy out of the box. I was able to shoot it on my way home from the gun store and it shot great. I only shot it at 25 yards but the groups were all about an inch. This last weekend squirrel season opened and I took old Henry out in the woods with me. I shot this squirrel scurrying across the tops of the trees in gully. Ryan Gebfert and I skinned it up and are going to try and tan the hide. Hopefully it turns out better than the squirrel Kenny and I tried to tan in high school. Kenny and I nailed it to a board, salted it, and left it there. That squirrel is still nailed to the same piece of wood in my parents garage back home and is as hard as a rock. My dad and brother are coming into town this weekend and we are going to head back up to the range to do some more target shooting.

Pittsburgh Buck

I finally got a buck after hunting for all these years. I had killed a small mule deer buck a few years back but never a whitetail buck. This is my first one! Ya Baby! We have a number of stands set up on the property we hunt near my house here in Pittsburgh. Today I decided to sit in a stand that is on the back of the property near train tracks. You have to walk up a draw to get to the stand and it sits on the side of a big hill. The stand is in a perfect location because it is right on a funnel the deer have to travel through. Right behind the stand is a large, dense thicket and 10 yards in front of the stand is a cliff that drops off so the deer only have one trail to walk down if they want to traverse the ridge.
At 7:05 am I started to hear something rustling in the leaves off to my right. It was dark enough still that I couldn't see very far away. Then I saw the big boy walking down the trail right toward me. I got my crossbow up and ready and waited for the buck to come into my shooting lane. When he was about 5 yards from me he froze and looked straight up at me. I don't know if he got wind of me or saw me, but he turned around and took a couple of quick steps back in the direction he came in. Luckily, he stopped and looked back up at me. I released my arrow and it struck right behind and above the right shoulder and exited underneath the left shoulder and stuck in the ground. He sprinted off about 40 yards or so up the hill, stopped, and then I heard him crash and roll about 20 yards down the hill until his rack hung up on small sappling. That's when I knew I had him. I waited about twenty minutes and then went over to check out my buck. He had a bigger body than I thought but his rack was just average size. I had seen two much bigger bucks the year before and my buddy Ryan Gebfert shot at a bigger racked 8 pointer the week before, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity before me. Especially since I am battling with the baby deadline of November 29th.
Well, to say the least, I was ecstatic with the hunt. I was only in my stand for an hour, it was 5 minutes past legal shooting time, and I got the deer back home before Keri had even gotten out of bed. Now the pressure is on Leroy (Kenny) to earn back the right of "the deer slayer". I do believe that this buck is bigger than Kenny's "miniature" baby buck from last year. HA!!!!!
Good luck to the rest of you this deer season!

So far the deer are winning the battles hopefully I can win the war!!!!!

Well this is the fourth time that the does have come out of the same location and not given me a shot. This time I went a head and took aim and tried a farther shot then i would have normally taken. This was mostly out of fustration this year looks to be a more difficult year then those in the past for me. I have seen no Bucks in all the deer that I have seen. I hope that as october goes on that the deer will get more active. This week I will be at Bob Evan's Farm festival so this was the last day of hunting this week. Good luck to all you weekend warriors.

Second Time out for the 2008 season!!!!!

Well yesterday was the second chance that I had to get some back strap. Only problem this time was getting the deer to come in close enough. Three does and 9am tuesday morning stayed out at about 60 yards. Just a little lond of a shoot for me and my crossbows comfort. I'm just glade some cooler weather is hear and the deer seem to be reacting to it with some movement.

Monday, September 29, 2008

Since the season opened 1 week ago I have been out 3 different times in 3 different stands and have still not even seen a deer. Luck just hasn't gone in my favor yet. I am headed out for the last few hours tomorrow night and then again on Saturday morning when Buck archery season opens here in PA. Hopefully this Saturday will be when I nail that big one I have been hunting for all of these years!

Three days into the Season Ohio!!!!!

Well as you can see do to the lack of pictures there was not much action in the state of ohio on opening day at least in Madison county. However, the morning brings a new day and hopefully something will be moving.
